Jay Bolling, Executive Chairman

With more than 25 years of healthcare marketing experience, Jay Bolling is a recognized thought leader and innovator among today’s pharmaceutical and medical device marketers.

Jay has helped PulseCX pioneer a groundbreaking approach that fuses the best elements of disease awareness, brand advertising, and relationship marketing.

He’s passionate about developing customer experiences (CX) that influence the decision-making process behind the attitudes and behaviors that drive brand usage. Jay knows how crucial it is to identify the ‘key impact moments’ when customers are most receptive to specific communications and then fully engage target audiences to measurably increase the impact of brand messaging.

Jay is on the Editorial Advisory Boards at PM360 and the Journal for Patient Compliance. He is one of PharmaVOICE magazine's "100 Most Inspiring People in the Life Sciences." Jay is also a frequent speaker at national industry conferences and is a regular contributor to publications such as PM360, MM&M, and PharmaVOICE.

Jay is the proud father of three girls. He loves to fish, golf, travel, and ski.

Favorite activity?
There are so many things I love to do outside of work, and I’m always trying to find the time to get in a round of golf at home or on the road, or sneak off to some of this country’s great outdoor destinations—the Eastern Shore of Maryland for some early-morning duck hunting, the peaks of Utah for some great powder skiing, or the beaches of Nantucket for some striped bass and blue fishing.

A secret that you wouldn’t mind everyone knowing?
I was a roping champion (as in “cowboy”) as a teen in Wyoming.


Favorite place in the world?
I’ve been fortunate to have done quite a bit of travelling in my life (both personally and professionally), spanning the globe on two different occasions. While Nantucket Island, the Monterey peninsula, the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Australia are all favorite destinations, Capetown, South Africa is one of the most incredible places I’ve ever been on this earth. The combination of its wonderful people, the Stellenbosch wine country, the view of Table Mountain, and the incredible chalk-white beaches juxtaposed against the green waters of the Indian Ocean make this one of the world’s great wonders.

List five goals on your life’s to-do list:
In addition to my ongoing quest to create great customer experiences (CX), I’d like to:

  • Be successful in business
  • Afford college for my daughters
  • Own a ranch and all the trimmings
  • Travel endlessly
  • Visit all 20 islands listed as the Enduring Edens in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice survey.

Are you an indoors or outdoors person?
Outdoors—it’s too hard to find golf courses, ski areas, fishing boats, and ducks indoors.

Favorite teacher of all-time?
Capt. Bob Francis (on the art of fishing)—he had a high school education and rarely left Nantucket, but he taught me more about people and the outdoors than anyone else in my life.

First industry job OR first industry account (whichever is more interesting)?
Merck, Merck & Merck! My first job was running a hepatitis B vaccination awareness program for people with cognitive disabilities. Unfortunately, this population is at high risk of contracting the disease and suffering from its consequences. In my first office (a transformed coat closet—seriously), I had the 800 number hotline for facility directors, caregivers, and physicians. I’ve never been more hands-on in working an account, and it was very rewarding to help people help those with disabilities.

Best present ever?
Three happy and healthy girls whom I absolutely adore.

What movie makes you cry?
Most chick flicks (he admits sheepishly).
